Foetal Ageing/Segregation Pregnancy Testing

• We are able to accurately pregnancy test cattle at an efficient rate and not only tell whether cows are in calf or not, but also tell how far in calf each individual is
• By doing this we can allow producers to effectively improve their breeder herd performance through a tailored preg testing program that fits their management and property infrastructure constraints
• A system this clinic uses regularly is segregation pregnancy testing which involves grouping together cows based on a month(s) that they are going to calve in particular paddocks which has considerable benefits including:
  • Better breeder, calf and weaners management through grouping together of cows due to calve at the same time. This allows reduced mustering frequency, no or limited mustering of very young calves and accurate prediction of weaners numbers with each muster
  • Identification and culling of non or poorly productive cows
  • Reduced calf losses and breeder mortality rates through targeted sales of late/out of season calves or through targeted lick support of at risk cows
  • More effective use of paddocks through movement of the most productive groups to the best country available
  • Decreased risk when breeding heifers. Foetal ageing allows producers to join heifers for longer and still identify the top performers that they need to keep as replacements. Any excess replacements (either not detectably pregnant or due to calve late/out of season) can then be culled

Bull Breeding Soundness Evaluation

• Commercial or stud focussed crush side evaluation of semen to identify sub or infertile bulls
• Collection of morphology samples for greater accuracy in assessment of bull fertility
